Resumen:
In this paper it is proposed and evaluated the ?Multi-azimuthal window? (M.W.), a constructive element located in the envelope of a building, key in outside-inside energy flows exchange. The M.W., inspired in Bow-windows and Bay-windows of English origin, is a projected window conformed by a set of glazed panels (usually 3) oriented to different azimuth, there of its name. The objective of this work is to assess the M.W. lighting potential (amount of light entering the space and its distribution), in comparison to commonly used Flat Windows (F.W.). To achieve this objective a methodology in four stages was used: a) prototype measurement, 2) natural lighting simulation, 3) development of factors and d) Improvement of internal lighting distribution ? energy saving. Recommendations for sustainable building design address results obtained by the use of the LGF M-F factor combined with the need of light-shelves for M.W. If geometrical characteristics of the window as a constructive element are taken into account combined with the design of adequate solar protections, M.W can became a key element in an envelope energy rehabilitation project.
