The book will consist of fifteen descriptive and analytical essays that focus on urban development and buildings in New World cities including Rio de Janeiro, Santiago de Chile, Bogotá, Sao Paulo, Mexico, Panama, La Paz, Lima, Montevideo, Valparaíso and Caracas, each accompanied by original drawings, maps, photographs and illustrations. The essays, written by architects and historians familiar with the terrain and cultural settings, explore cities, buildings, infrastructure, landscape and the creative links between them to reveal their complex formal, cultural, social, economic and aesthetic relationships.
