Resumen:
As I approach retirement from my scientific career at theNational Research Council of Argentina (CONICET), I writethis letter to express my gratitude to my colleagues in the CellStress Society International (CSSI). Over many years of scientificactivity, several of these colleagues have become mydear friends. My first contact with the Society was through Dr.Robert M. Tanguay. At that period of my career, I usuallypresented my work at cancer congresses attended by thousandsof colleagues. I was presenting a poster about HSP27in cancer at one of these large congresses when Robertapproached me and suggested I join the CSSI, a small societythat offered more opportunities for personal interactions andcollaborations. After I became a CSSI member, I saw the truthof what Robert had told me; today I can say that the CSSIchangedmy scientific life. I learned to attend smaller meetingswhere colleagues were really interested in my work and I intheirs. Soon, the possibility arose for one of my students tostudy with Dr. Andrei Laszlo of St. Louis,MO, where she wastrained to make the comet assay that she uses to this day in hercareer as a researcher.
