Kinematic analysis of data from small-scale faults and its application to the study of an extensional depocentre, Neuquén basin, west-central Argentina

In this contribution we present a case study where valuable structural information about a past tectonic event is obtained from small-scale faulting. The studied area corresponds to the Atuel depocentre of the Neuquén basin, which opening was related to a Late Triassic to Early Jurassic regional extension. The information obtained from the analysis of minor faults helped us to interpret the movement of some of the major faults, the presence of possibly reactivated previous structures, and finally the type of rift that the Atuel depocentre was.
