Resumen:
Some tourism and recreational values are estimated by the Travel Cost Method (TCM) using secondary data. The purpose of the primary collection could suffer from incentive compatibility problems. This being the case, the TCM value estimates may be biased, and extra care should be taken. This article provides some theoretical background and illustrates the problem in a case study with visitors to Spain's Barcelona zoo.
