Resumen:
The purpose of this paper is to show changes in the morphologies of two rock shelters –Chorrillo Malo 2 and Río Bote 1- from ca. 6000 years B.P. Sedimentological and morphological studies show changes in the surfaces of these deposits as well as in the shelter provided through time. Some of them have affected the way in which rock shelters were utilized. In the case of Chorrillo Malo 2, the additional shelter provided between ca. 6,270 and 5,400 years B. P. was probably the reason for its repeated, although probably discontinuous use. The most intense occupation of this place probably took place ca. 2800 years ago, with the increase in the surface of the rock shelter. The sedimentary sequence of Río Bote 1 was exposed by a change in the course of the river. This site has a high stratigraphic resolution, with a probably change from domestic to burial activities at ca. 3,740 years B.P. Changes in the morphologies of the rock shelters, as well as those existing at the regional scale of the landscape are important factors to be taken into account in the design of archaeological surveys as well as in the interpretations of the results obtained.
