The phytohormone auxin regulates gene expression through direct physical interaction with TIR1/AFB receptor proteins, which in turn remove the Aux/IAA family of transcriptional repressors. We have previously demonstrated that the double mutant, tir1 afb2 displays increased tolerance against salinity. Thus, we hypothesized that down-regulation of auxin signaling could be part of acclimation to salinity in Arabidopsis thaliana plants.
