Resumen:
Argentina was historically the main destination for migration from neighboring countriesin the southern cone of Latin America. Several studies have noted the importance ofsocial networks in international migration. However, few have studied the specific rolesoccupied by social networks in the south-south migration in Latin America. In thispaper we report findings from a recent survey of international migration from Paraguayto Argentina. Survey of Paraguayans’ Emigration (EEP2008) was done in migrant-sending communities in Paraguay. We present a comparative analysis of how socialnetworks operate to promote the emigration of Paraguayans from rural and urban areasto Argentina. Differentiation of the uses are made in household head that have beenreached by the survey migrates more than once (that he had done multiply voyages inthe moment he answered the survey). The discussion on rural and social networks istreated. We carry out a multivariate analysis to measure the effect of personalconnections to migrants and whether the effect differs by place of origin, from ruralareas or urban areas to Argentina.
