The increasing internationalization of higher education, and the so-called Pact of Bologna and the regional integration in Latin America, especially in the southern cone, with the development of the Mercosur, have encouraged the discussion on the quality and comparability of courses and higher education institutions The MERCOSUR, for example, after ten years of discussions, has established the Experimental Facility Accreditation (MEXA) that equates the titles of some courses in their countries. Recently, within the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) has announced the creation of a regional accreditation agency. This paper analyzes the emergence of higher education evaluation in Latin America and examines the systems of assessment and accreditation of higher education in Argentina and Brazil. I, here will focalized the processes of evaluation in the two countries because there are another paper whitch focus in regional integration, Mercosur and Bologna.
