Resumen:
Classification of Argentinean drivers according to their driving style, traffic accidents and alcohol use. Objective: To describe Argentinean drivers according to diving style, traffic infractions, reported accidents, alcohol use, age and gender.  Materials and Methods: Data were collected from a casual sample of 641 usual drivers, in Mar del Plata, Argentina. The data was gathered through a self-administered questionnaire containing questions, among others, regarding traffic accidents occurrence, infractions, usual alcohol use, the Multidimensional Driving Style Inventory (MDSI) and the Rapid Alcohol Problems Screen (RAPS). A factorial analysis of principal components and mixed classification analysis were performed. Each driving style was taken as an active variable with all the other variables as illustrative. Results: From the factorial map and dendogram a four class typology was obtained. Their main modalities are: Class 1/4: 30%, women older than 41 years with a Careful driving style who don’t report accidents.  Class 2/4: 33%, drivers without Alcohol Use Disorders with a Careful or Distress Reduction Style. Class 3/4: 18,5%, young males with an Alcohol Use Disorder, more than one accident and an Aggressive or Risky Style. Class 4/4: 18,5%, drivers with more than one accident and all driving styles but Careful. Risky and Aggressive Scales from the MDSI were highly related to each other and inversely related to the Careful Scale. Anxious Scale was positively related to the Dissociative Scale and these two were not associated to the Careful Scale and slightly to the Risky and Aggressive Scales. Conclusion: a typology of drivers was created according to their driving styles, reported accidents and other associated factors. This description contributes to the understanding human factors in Traffic Safety and to future developments in Safety Promotion and Injury Prevention.    Key words: driving styles-alcohol-traffic accidents-Argentina.
