Resumen:
Emilio Crenzel CONICET/UBA ecrenzel@retina.ar National Commission on the Disappearance of Persons / Comisión Nacional sobre la Desaparición de Personas (Argentina)             Argentina?s National Commission on the Disappearance of Persons (CONADEP) was established by President Raúl Alfonsín on 15 December 1983 to investigate the fate of individuals disappeared by the state?s repressive action. It completed its mandate on 20 September 1984, with the submission of its final report. The disappearances consisted of crimes perpetrated by uniformed or plainclothes military or police officers who detained or kidnapped individuals, taking them to illegal prisons known as ?Clandestine Detention Centers,? where they tortured and usually murdered them. As this occurred, the state denied any responsibility in the fate of the victims.
