Resumen:
In this work a new systematic methodology of global optimization to perform synthesis
of a flexible heat exchanger network (HEN) with isothermal mixing assumption is
presented. This new methodology is based on a previous work, named SynFlex, which
uses a promising superstructure to obtain flexible HEN. The main objective of SynFlex
is to optimize both, the total annual cost (TAC) involving the utility consumption and
the investment simultaneously. By introducing a new global optimization procedure,
which relies on turning as convex specific non convex terms SynFlex is enhanced. To
illustrate how the model SynFlex without global optimization procedure can exclude
optimal configurations and how a flexible synthesis affects the total annual cost, three
examples are given in this work.
