Resumen:
Shallow lakes may have large areal extensions but for most of the water body depths are too low for employing standard echosounders and boats. Furthermore, their borders tend to be diffuse both because of the presence of macrophytes and the wetlands that surround them. The Argentina Pampas is covered by large number of shallow lakes, which are understudied from the geomorphologic point of view. Therefore, the aim of this article is to present new methodology for their geomorphologic analysis as it is a basic element to further limnological studies. Tests of the methodology are carried out at La Salada shallow lake (Buenos Aires, Argentina), a site that belongs both to the Pampa2 and SAFER networks. The methodology developed combines the use an open source acoustic profiler mounted over an autonomous small boat plus aerial high-‐resolution photography employing an unmanned hexacopter. The former allows to obtain: i) an acoustic profile of lake bottom sediment and ii) georeferenced bathymetry in real-‐time. The fully autonomous hexacopter can map the coast and the wetlands. Resulting 3D maps can be further integrated with sedimentologic data take with grab samples (for bottom sediments) and a modified Phleger corer for subsurface sedimentary facies. The developed equipment has demonstrated advantages over traditional bathymetric methods both operating costs such as integrating the physical data with the geoposition data.
