Resumen:
Data
gathered at the Quequén River Estuary (Argentina)from tidal records indicate
the continuous presence of
fluctuations with periods of 3 to 25 min and amplitudes from 5-30
cm on top of the tidal signal. The present study
coincide with an extraordinary river discharge which enhanced the
stratification always present at the
harbor.Current velocity and CTD were measured at 75 cm depth
during a tidal cycle with a sampling rate of 1s.
At the same time,a CTD with an OBS adapted to it was deployed at
4m below the surface to register
continuous,CTD and suspended sediment concentration at 1s
interval. Every 30m CTD vertical profiles were
made.Simultaneous tidal records(1 min interval)were obtained at
the mouth and the head of the harbor. Salinity
profiles showed a strong stratification, going from freshwater at
the surface with high suspended load, while
highly saline, water was found at the bottom. Velocities at the
surface showed long period fluctuations which
correspond to the presence of internal waves. Fluctuations were
characterized,and fundamental peaks were
determined. Also a double coupling second order interaction has
been found between the most energetic
frequencies giving subarmonic energy peaks. This fluctuations may
be related to the geomorphologic effect
produced by an artificial step made by the dredging of the harbor
upon the interaction between the river
