Resumen:
The northern coast of the Canal Principal of the Bahía Blanca Estuary harbors a large number of tidalchannels and creeks. One of the most important is the Maldonado Channel which is one of the fewthat also is connected to a freshwater input to the estuary. The present work was developed to obtainthe pattern circulation and sedimentary dynamics of this channel never studied before. Measurementsincluded bathymetry and side scan sonar and determinations of physical and suspended sedimentparameters at two station were located along the channel for a complete tidal cycle. Analysis of thedata showed the characteristic circulation pattern in the meandering channel, the suspended sedimentcontribution from the plains and channels sides and the dynamics of sediment transport in the innerestuary. The current velocity varied according to the flow pattern and channel riverbanks, while thesalinity oscillated from 30.5 to 35.0 during the ebb and flood tide.
