Resumen:
Estuaries and coastal wetlands are important environments along the marine coasts of the world. They are directly or indirectly related to the water and sediment input provided by the rivers reaching the coast. The characteristics of both environments depend geological, atmospheric, fluvial and marine factors. The degree of influence of each factor individually and their combination may induce end members such as deltas or estuaries. On the other hand, the tidal damming zone on the upper estuary, which has been largely neglected, is demonstrated that plays a major role both in the upper estuary proper and the estuarine mouth as well.
