Resumen:
COnsidering its extended coastline (over 4500 kin), the numberof estuaries in Argentinais relativelylowas compared with other countries (Fig.1).The differenceis clearlymarkedby the hydrological regimethatcharacterizes the country. Maximum precipitations are concentrated on the N and NE of the countryanddrain into the Rio de la Platabasin.Within the BuenosAiresprovince,an importantnumberof rivershavetheir origin on the Sierras de Tandil and Ventana hill systemsbut, as they reach the coast, most of thewaterinfiltratesunderground or discharges inlo small lakesclosedto by a wide coastaldunesystem.
