Resumen:
An evaluation of the wind potential at different sites (four onshore and one offshore) and heights in the coastal zone of SW Buenos Aires Province (Argentina) were considered in the study. De wind speed data was analyzed and fitted to the Weibull distribution function. Also, the operational and economic performance of small and medium-scale wind turbines models was assessed. Based on results of this research, the study sites have enough potential for wind energy generation. The onshore sites have a relatively good situation with respect to power density from a height of 30 m above ground. Unlike this, the offshore site achieved a good level of power density in almost every month from a height of 10 m. At higher altitudes (e.g., 60 m) the power density becomes great during several months in all study sites.
