Resumen:
The continuum distorted wave model has been extensively applied to charge transfer and ionizationprocesses. We present both the perturbative and variational capture theories as well as highlighting the suitability of this model in describing the continuu final states in both heavy and light particle ionization. We then develop the Wannier theoryfor threshold ionization, and further theoretical work which led to the modern quantal semiclassicalapproximation. This very successful theoryhas provided the first absolute cross sectionswhich are in good agreement with experiment.
