Resumen:
The geothermal Copahue volvano area (Neuquén, Patagonia Argentina) is an extreme ecosystem characterized by wide range of temperature and pH. This place is the habitat of extremophilic microorganisms able to be used in biotechnological applications such as the recovery of metals from low-grade ores and mineral concentrates. In this work, we describe the physiological characteristics of four indigenous strains and their use in the bioleaching of a low-grade sulfide ore (La Silvita mine, Patagonia, Argentina).
