Resumen:
In view of global climate change is important to know how tree species responded to climate changes in the past. We combine species distribution models (SDM) and phylogeographic analysis of microsatellite markers along Austrocedrus chilensis distribution, a cold-sensitive southern conifer, to unravel its postglacial migration history. The SDM indicate that during the Last Glacial Maximum climatic conditions suitable for Austrocedrus were in northern Chile (36°-38°S). Genetic diversity parameters and effective population sizes within populations decreased southward along the Andes, consistent with the hypothesis of long-distance dispersal from a northern refugium, and average coalescence time was deeper for the more northern Chilean populations. These results support the hypothesis of one, or very few, low latitude refugia, so the Chilean populations would be the origin of Austrocedrus populations in Argentina.
