This is a quantitative review about the Mapuche ethnobotany information published for Argentina and Chile Patagonian region. Sixteen ethnobotanical articles were studied. A total of 505 medicinal species, 304 native (60%) and 196 exotic (39%) were registered. In general the highest consensus values correspond to the native species. The species are herbs (56%), shrubs (29%) and trees (13.5%), and in smaller proportion climbing (1.4%), parasite and hemi-parasite plants (0.5%). The 54% of the plants are used against gastrointestinal pains, and these have the most consensus among the papers. The information offered can be used as a guide for future prospecting tasks about promissory species for health, and like background information for the development of bio-cultural conservation strategies.
