Resumen:
Nanoquasicrystalline Al93Fe3Cr2Ti2at% alloys have been extensively studied due to their outstanding mechanical properties up to elevated temperatures, but ductility and toughness of the alloy are reduced. In the present work, composites consisting of a nanoquasicrystalline Al93Fe3Cr2Ti2at% alloy matrix with varying amounts of pure Al fibres have been produced by powder metallurgy in an effort to improve ductility and energy absorbing ability compared to the pure alloy. Microstructural characterisation, microhardness tests and tensile tests have been performed at a strain rate of 1x10-4s-1 at room temperature and 250°C. Increasing the volume fractions of pure Al fibres caused a decrease in UTS and an increase in ductility and energy absorbing ability of the composites.
