Resumen:
Different Al based nanostructured alloys and composites have been developed in the recent yearscontaining several types of reinforcements and ductilizers in the nanoscale dimensions. Severalworks done by the authors have shown the use of metastable phases, such as quasicrystalline phases with improved stability, retain high strength at elevated temperatures, and the addition of Al as ductilizer particles improved considerably the toughness of the composites.  Different aspects of the manufacturing processes and the microstructural characteristics, were analysed carefully achieving the balance needed to allow the scalability to near industrial scale of the novel nanoquasicrystalline alloys and composites without compromising the mechanical behaviour. These novel nanomaterials studied require a careful control of the chemical composition and the extrusion temperature range in order to make these materials directly transferable to industry.
