Resumen:
In the present work a novel approach to represent debris floods and flows is presented. Theproposed approach is based on a depth integrated mathematical model, a rheological modelthat takes into account entrainment of solid materials into the flow and a SPH numerical model. The main improvements of the present approach with respect to previous works are twofold:(i) an improved approximation for Bingham fluids where solid fraction concentration can change as solids are entrained by the current and (ii) implementation of boundary conditions describing the injection process of water from channel weirs into the domain. The model has been applied to the case of Lo Wai debris flood (Hong Kong, August 2005).Numerical results obtained with the proposed model are in agreement with field observation.
