Resumen:
From validity to anthropomorphism: the narrow path of animal models in neuroscience. Silvina L. Diaz. Instituto de Biología Celular y Neurociencia Prof. E De Robertis, Paraguay 2155, 3ºfloor, C1121AB, Buenos Aires, Argentina The field of neuroscience has remarkably developed during the last two decades. Even though much effort has been devoted to the development of animal models used in translating behaviour and also, a huge progress has been experienced, there are no models, whatever the disorder, that completely recapitulate signs and symptoms observed in clinics. To improve the animal models employed in the study of neurological disorders or neurodegenerative pathologies, the neuroscientific community has set strict validity criteria in order to develop useful paradigms to evaluate specific parameters and, at the same time, avoid an anthropomorphic interpretation of results. The talk will cover several aspects concerning the validity criteria when setting experimental conditions. Specific considerations to the employ of transgenic mice models will be also presented in the context of research in neuroscience.
