Resumen:
The effect of ethanol (EthOH) during neuronal development was studied in different animal models. We have previously shown in in vivo studies that neurons and aligal cells as well as neuronal precursors displayed high susceptibility to EtOH. Our aim was to investigate the effect of EtOH on primary neuronal cultures from cerebral cortex. Primary neuronal cultures were obtained from cerebral cortex of 1-day old rats and grown in Neurobasal medium wich avoid glial cells growth. After 7 or 14 days,  EtOH was added to the medium and was present during 24 hs. After that period, morphological changes in neurons were determined by electon microcopy while neuronal death and apoptosis  were evaluated by MTT or TUNEL assay, respectively.
