Some properties of electrochemical nanostructures

The physical and electronic properties of several platinum nanostructures havebeen investigated by density functional calculations. Particular attention has beenpaid to the structure of the d band. Our results predict, that nanowires and smallplatinum clusters supported on Au(111) should be excellent catalysts for the hydrogenevolution reaction; a monolayer of platinum on Au(111) should also be betterthan pure platinum.
