Chromium-rich epidote in a garnet-pyroxene skarn, Los Guindos, Pampa de Olaen, Córdoba.Chromium-rich epidote is reported for the first time in Argentina. It occurs in a garnet-clinopyroxene skarn at Los Guindos, Pampa de Olaen, Córdoba. Microprobe analysis yielded Cr2O3 contents that vary between 0.06 and 7.4 wt. % (0.004 and 0.472 a.p.f.u, respectively) in retrograde anhedral epidote. Epidote grew after the replacement of a clinopyroxene crystal starting from its intergranular contact with a zincochromite crystal inclusion, and from the fractures and cleavages of clinopyroxene (sample Ep1). Minor contents of Cr2O3 up to 0.75 wt. % (0.047 a.p.f.u.) were recorded in anhedral epidote grains with irregular zonation associated with the retrograde stage (actinolite-potassium feldspar-chlorite-quartz-calcite) of a pyroxene scheelite-bearing skarn (sample Ep2).
