Resumen:
Postgraduate geosciences teaching: from where and to where. Nowadays, there is an increasing labor demand on Earth Sciences (including emplacement or creation of autonomous work in research centers and companies of management as well as diffusion of the natural heritage, public administrations, prospecting and management of geological resources companies, consultancies and monitoring of infrastructure projects, environmental audits and spatial planning, geological mapping, paleontology, medical and forensic palynology) which cannot be fulfilled due to the lack of a critical number of qualified professionals. It is thus mandatory to form professionals whose skills, abilities and competences sustained by rich information (meta-knowledge) not only respond to the socio-economic-environmental demands but also allow a greater labor insertion. The acquisition of a temporally flexible knowledge, in accordance with a functional and uncritical demand, as well as the incorporation of new learning models that integrate research and teaching based on local, cultural and social realities should prevail in higher education, and particularly in postgraduate level. The meta-knowledge and its practice require a human environment that provides active communication between the different actors (teachers and students) and its observation or mentoring. The Twenty-First Century institutions, especially those providing higher education, must be able to respond effectively to the many problems that may arise, conceptualizing consonant as well as diversified programs mostly based on local and regional realities.
