Resumen:
Lakes from a group of islands located in the NE Antarctic Peninsula were studied. The hydrological systems were developed on different periglacial environments, after ice cap retreat during the Holocene. Geochemical, hydrological, sedimentological, magnetic and biological studies were held to identify particular characteristics in different environments on each island. Based on an integrated analysis of parameters related to magnetic mineralogy and physical-chemical characteristics, significant statistical differences between lakes are observed. These differences can be attributed to particular characteristics of each lake?s catchments and environment, and processes (diagenetic, biological, geochemical, etc.) that could take place. The present study will contribute to a better understanding of Antarctic lake systems from a multidisciplinary approach.
