Resumen:
The effect of bile acids on the growth of Listeria monocytogenes was investigated by monitoring conductance changes. Both unconjugated bile acids (cholic acid, deoxycholic acid and chenodeoxycholic acid) and conjugated ones with glycine and taurine were assayed at the concentrations of 1, 2, 4, and 6 mM. Deoxycholic and chenodeoxycholic acid proved to be lethal at all concentrations assayed while cholic acid was inhibitory only at 2, 4 and 6 mM. The growth of L. monocytogenes was not affected by the presence of conjugated bile acids. Results obtained were confirmed by measuring the optical density of the culture at 560nm.
