Resumen:
This project was designed to study the seasonal patterns of mosquito abundance at an Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) focus in southeastern Louisiana. Mosquito abundance and temporal co-occurrence were examined in relation to habitat and climate variables. Mosquitoes were collected biweekly over a period of 8 months using fiber pots as resting boxes at 22 sites located in St Tammany Parish, Louisiana, on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain. Landing/biting collections were also made and rainfall, temperature, humidity, and soil pH were recorded at the sites. All specimens were tested for virus infection and bloodfed females were analyzed for host preference. All site specific data were analyzed in a GIS designed to identify factors geographically characterizing the habitat of species associated with EEE transmission.
