In this communication, we analyze SSH books translations in Argentina from 1990 to 2011. Argentina occupies a doubly peripheral position in the global system. Its language, Spanish, is peripheral in comparison to English and even to French and German, albeit to a lesser extent. Second, scientific and cultural geopolitics dictate that the United States and Europe are the principal producers and communicators in all scientific areas. (Gingras y Mosbah-Natanson, 2010; Heibron, 2013) This choice is not only theoretical?margins are critical to understanding cores?but empirical as well. The first finding in relation to English is that it is not the most translated language in the sphere of the social sciences and humanities as becomes evident when the different source languages of the published SSH titles are compared. In this work, we have investigated the five most translated languages in Argentina, i.e., French, English, German, Italian and Portuguese.
