Resumen:
The present work reports the results of an investigation regarding the elastic properties of both Argentinean Pinus Taeda/Elliottii and Eucalyptus grandis by the dynamic method of measuring the fundamental frequencies of vibration. It aims at scrutinising how that method is suitable to these timber species. For this purpose an empirical research project with four samples of beams in structural sizes exhibiting a wide range of variation in quality was carried out. The relationship between the static modulus in bending (Em,l) and the dynamic modulus calculated by both longitudinal and bending vibration (El and Ef, respectively) was determined. The mean value of Em,l was 16.98GPa and 4.84GPa for E. grandis and Pinus Taeda/Elliottii, respectively. El and Ef exhibited lower mean values than Em,l for the two species analysed. The ratio El/Em,l  and Ef/Em,l for E. grandis was 0.754 and 0.728, respectively. The results give evidence of the effectiveness of this method for determining the elastic properties for these Argentinean species in different sizes, and that it is reliable for pieces of high quality as well as for those containing important strength and stiffness reducing factors. These results and their discussion encourage further applications of this technique with these timber species.
