Resumen:
This book is a continuation of a previous one published in 2004 (Valentinuzzi, 2004), which was the result of over 35 years of teaching bioengineering and physiology at the undergraduate and graduate levels, in this country and abroad, in engineering and in medical schools, from the perspective of a simple teaching assistant under the supervision of great teachers like Hebbel E. Hoff and Leslie A. Geddes, at Baylor College of Medicine, in Houston, Texas, USA, to the level of full professorship and directorship of a graduate program at the Universidad Nacional de Tucumán (UNT), in Argentina, of collecting notes and material of different kinds, of actual research and technological development activities, of close interaction with students and collaborators alike, of joyful and sometimes painful work. This older text acts as launching platform of the present one, which is not a Primer anymore, as it was stated in its former title, but it still intends to be a Road to Bioengineering bringing Further News. Thus, the former did not end, or I may have not wanted it to end. The newer is not comprehensive and not a handbook, either. It just is what its title suggests. It is multi-author and the main scriptwriter of the preceding textbook takes now the position of Editor and Principal Author as well. Current knowledge has become so wide and complex that rarely, if ever, a single mind is able to manage it all, no matter how experienced the person may be. Several contributors were invited (see the list), but not too many, otherwise the text would lose continuity or steadiness, but each is proficient in his/her specific subject. Most of them are well set in Argentina, while the rest develop their activities abroad. Perhaps the book is somewhat biased in many respects, or lacking subjects, especially because always when a book is made public ? well ? it is already old or outdated. My apologies, but remember that often things depend on the color of the lens through which we look, as centuries ago was apparently stated one way or another by renowned poets like Jorge Manrique (1440-1479), William Shakespeare (1564-1616), Pedro Calderón de la Barca (1600-1681), and Ramón de Campoamor (1817-1901). The main audience aimed at should be formed by relatively advanced students, say, near graduation or already in the graduate road, including young researchers deepening on established lines or perhaps opening new tracks. The well-set investigator may also pick up a few hints. Let me insist: The intent is to bring, not all, but Further News.
