Resumen:
The general objective of this project is to develop and test an entirely autologous product, designed for the treatment of acute or chronic skin wounds. The challenge is to develop tissue engineered materials which can be produced at an industrial scale and easily fit in the clinical practice of the end users. Proper mechanical, chemical and surface properties are crucial to produce a scaffold suitable for cellular infiltration and proliferation, that can be bioabsorbed during the healing process. Similar to other experimental therapies, cultured skin substitutes must be validated for function by evaluation in vitro and in vivo. The opportunity of a close interaction with investigators in microbiology, materials science, chemistry and tissue engineering, as well as the access to funding for the development of this project significantly contribute to the success and international competitiveness of the product under development.
