Resumen:
The control of the arterial hypertension (AH) and obesity (Ob) is difficult to realize, even more in rural populations. In Tucum¨¢n (Argentina) there are few studies of nutritional habits related to AH and Ob. The efficiency of the DASH 2 diet in diminishing the AH has been widely demonstrated. Aims: To determine prevalence of AH, Ob and nutritional risk factors in patients of Tucum¨¢n´s rural hospital. Methods: Information was obtained by systematical sampling fulfilled with random take-off 3 and 1 spend 3 using 1/3 of the group in study. Arterial pressure, body mass index (BMI) and perimeter of waist (PW) were measured. 25 surveys of food habits (SFA: follow-up of 24 hs and frequency of food consumption) were perfomed. They were correlated with a hypothetical DASH 2 diet. Results: The arterial pressure was 128¡À3/83¡À2 mmHg (age: 46¡À2 years). AH´s prevalence was 36 %, high PW was 84 % and high BMI was 80 % (36 % overweight; 40 % Ob and 4 % morbid Ob). There was correlation between PW vs BMI (r: 0.8457; p <0.0001), vs age (r= 0.3852; p <0.05) and vs diast¨®lic AH (¦Ö2=4.25; p<0.05). In relation to DASH 2 diet, SFA showed major consumption, of carbohydrates in 52 % of the patients, fats (48 %) and sodium (88 %), minor consumption of lacteal (56 %) and fruits (12 %). The consumption of proteins was normal (88 %). Only 8 % fulfilled the diet DASH 2. Conclusions: The high PW may be partially due to the style of life that incorporated bad food habits: a rich diet in carbohydrates, fats and sodium, which would be correlated also to AH´s high prevalence.
