AKUNU: Open Lightning Detection and Atmospheric Data Collection System

This paper describes the origin and status of the AKUNU project, whose main objective is the development of an inexpensive sensor network for the collection of atmospheric and environmental data, including lightning detection and location, to be used for research and academic purposes. In so doing, the project aims at providing a simple, scalable and affordable measurement sensor infrastructure for research institutions in countries with limited financial resources.
