Resumen:
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of phosphate and arsenate in microbenthic communities in fluvial systems. Communities were grown in artificial sustrata placed in seven streams with differents As/P ratios. After colonization, phtosinthetic parameters were measured. Algal biomass was low in strams with elevate As, fact that suggest that arsenate limit growth. Photosynthetic efficiency was lower in streams where AS/P ratio was high. This suggest that beyond the concentration of As in the fluvial system, the presence of P can lessen the impact of As in the grown of algae.
