Resumen:
The first evaluation of the sediment input to the Argentine Basin was estimated assuming that the main sources were provided by the continent, and neglecting the sediments provided from Antarctica (Siegel, 1973). Considering only the input from the rivers de la Plata (129 x 106 metric tons), Colorado (6.9-7.7 x 106 metric tons) and Negro (15.2-13.6 x 106 metric tons, Depetris, 1968; Depetris and Griffin, 1968), Siegel summed a fluvial input of about 150 x 106 metric tons to the Argentine continental shelf, but of only 22 x 106 to the Patagonian shelf. The input of sediment by coastal erosion was disregarded.    Dealing with coastal erosion, Kokot and Codignotto (2002) determined different geomorphological sectors of the coast of Santa Cruz Province. Schillizzi et al. (2003) described the processes that are controlling coastal erosion in the provinces of Río Negro and Chubut.    In the present contribution, the sediment that is provided by annual coastal erosion was estimated. At the same time, taking advantage of some GIS procedures, the reduction in the water contribution of some river watersheds was evaluated in order to explain the misfit of some fluvial floodplains.
