Resumen:
Osteoporosis incidence correlates inversely with calcium intake (CaI) which remains inadequate, regardless of age and socioeconomic status. An increase in Ca absorption would be a suitable tool to optimize its bioavailability and consequently bone health. Non-digestible oligosaccharides (NDO) enhance Ca absorption. The present study evaluated the effect of feeding a low Ca diet containing NDO on intestinal microflora, Ca absorpiton and bone health. Female Wistar rats were OVX and remained untreated for 45 days.
