Their age ranged from 18 to 34 years old (mean: 23±8 yr); 82% were women and 18% men. Usual Ca intake was determined by a food-frequency questionnaire. Frequency consumption of dairy products, calcium-enriched foods and vegetables, dietary practices, exercise and lifestyle (consumption of cigarettes, soft drinks, contraceptives, etc.) were recorded. Blood samples were obtained in a fasting state. Dental-oral status and total skeletal bone mineral density (BMD), bone mineral content (BMC) and body composition were evaluated by DXA (Lunar). Biochemical determinations of bone and cholesterol metabolism were made. Results: Body mass index was 21.3±2.8 in women and 23.9±3.2 in men. Dairy products consumption was quite low, so only 10% of women and 16% of men covered the recommended Ca intake and 50% and 36%, respectively had a Ca intake 4 and 29% and 45% of them, respectively, showed at least one tooth loss. In this case, approximately 80% presented MA> 4, 90% consumed soft-drinks daily and 100% of them had Ca intake lower than the recommendations. A total of 48% of men and 10% of women practiced exercise every day and 18% of men and 38% did not at all. 39% of women took contraceptives and 39% of women and 14% of men were smokers. Conclusion: Based on the results obtained there is a high Ca, fruit and vegetables deficiency in the studied group with dietary and lifestyle habits that would affect oral health and, in the future, skeleton status. Nutrition status would benefit from an adequate education on nutritional habits which would improve life quality of subjects. This is part of O Antonenko thesis.
