Resumen:
The trophic state of the shallow lakes in Buenos Aires province is influenced byhydrologic conditions and the characteristics of the soils. Most of these water bodiesbelong to endorreic basins. The alternation of periods drought and flood has generatedfluctuations in the physical, chemical and biologic parameters of these ponds. Themain object of this research is to determine the contribution of this water bodies in Ihestability of global levels of available nitrogc]en (N), phosporous (P), carbon (C) andsediments. Data from shallow lakes of the soutllern Buenos Aires Province south("pampean shallow lakes") were employed. The retention of C N and P was evaluated trough the analysis of the particulateorganic matter decomposition. in different oxidation states, several of which areimportant in the chemistry of the lagoon. The interpretation and analysis of satellitalimages showed that tlle slialiow lake areas increased in tlie last years. Finally, P, Nand C retention was considered one of the moist important attributes of the "Pampeanshallow lakes". The nature of the "pampean" basin (without drainage) increased the concentrations of these elements along the tirne.
