Where are the papers about South American Estuaries?

In defining the degree of knowledge that exists about South American estuaries in retation with other countries and/or continents, we made a bibliographic analysis of the papers pUblished in the two international .joumals which their main emphasis is in estuaries. They are dedicated to an international audience and open to contributions from all over the world. The selected journals are Estuaries (published by the Estuarine Research Federation, USA) and Estuarine, Coastal and Shelf Science (ECSS) formerly known as Estuarine, Coastal Marine Science (published by the Estuarine, CoastaJ Science Association, UK). Our objective was to demonstrate that the number of papers being published in the international literature about estuaries of South America is an under representation of the actual work being done. Our main emphasis was also to differentiatebetween the various main subjects in which those estuaries were approached in the papers.
