Resumen:
It has been already established that DNA?silver fluorophores present two intense absorption bands, one in the visible and the other in the UV spectral region, and that the excitation of both bands produces a common fluorescence signal. Nevertheless, the detailed mechanism responsible for this coupling is still elusive. In this context, our work is a significant leap forward in this goal by providing a dynamic picture of the excitation and the processes that takes place upon light absorption in these systems using a time-dependent density functional tight-binding approach. In this talk we will present a summary of the results we have obtained in the past two years concerning these systems. We have established a possible energy transfer pathway between excited bases and the silver core as well as a mechanism for the fluorescence. We have been able to relate the charge state with the photophysics explaining important features thatcan be directly correlated with experiment and provide a sound basis for the structural models existing in the literature.
