The goal of this work is to study the disturbances caused by inflation on the price system. In this sense, the book sumarizes the the results of previous empirical research carried out during the last two decades. These studies focused on the inter-country evidence, so that the results were limited by the non trivial availability of disaggregated price data. The samples revised included countries with different level of development and inflationary history. As it is well known, advanced economies are caracterized by price stability, while developing countries presents a past of strong macroeonomic instability and high inflation. The book carries out a comparison between low and high inflation countries among most of the chapters. Finally, a causality analysis is applied to intermediate inflation cases, in order to determine the channels connecting monetary shocks, inflation and relative price variability.
