Resumen:
This work attempts to discuss some of the repressive mechanisms used by last Argentinean military rule (1976-1983) from an archaeological perspective. In this case, we particularly focus on the study of clandestine centers of detention (CCDs) and the appearance of persecuted groups. On the one hand, architecture and spatial organization might be thought as strategic devices that guarantee the exercise of power. On the other hand, the materiality of bodies and dress might be thoughts as key elements in the categorization, stigmatization, and disappearance of victims. Survivors’ testimonies and archaeological findings represent the main lines of evidence used in this work. If archaeology is capable of questioning the past, then it could make an adequate tool for political transformation. Following this idea, we believe archaeologists could face official history and play an active role in the re-construction of memory.
