Resumen:
The urban and demographic growth of San Carlos de Bariloche has been accelerated and complex. Otherwise, this city shows an heterogeneous social composition accentuated by migration. The aim of this paper is to analyze the social-demographic composition of the population. The areal unity is the neighborhood and the information source is the National Census 2001. Demographic, social and economic variables were selected. The clusters analysis was applied to produce the first neighborhood grouping. The classification was optimized by discriminate analysis. Finally, with the GIS processing, thematic cartography was obtained of the socio-demographic differences which demonstrates the spatial fragmentation. Key words: social differentiation, spatial fragmentation, clusters analysis, discriminate analysis, San Carlos de Bariloche
