Resumen:
My aim in this talk is not to assess in detail the different ideas concerning labour in the sagas and other textual sources from medieval Iceland, but instead provide a hypothesis on which ideological role is played by it in describing the social world of the sagas. To do so, I will use the notions of paradigmatic and emblematic labour, coined by the late American anthropologist David Graeber in his analysis of the Merina kingdom of nineteenth-century Madagascar
